10 Coconut Oil Uses
One of the most used natural products around is coconut oil. It is not only so easy to use, but there are so many benefits from coconut oil. In this article I will share with you my top favorite 10 coconut oil uses.
To date there are over 1,600 studies proving coconut oil to be one of the healthiest foods. It is one of my favorite cooking oils since it doesn’t oxidize at high heat therefore you never have to worry when heating your food. Oils such as olive oil do oxidize when heated too high.
There are so many ways to use coconut oil, but I am going to focus on the 10 coconut oil uses that I personally use on a daily basis.
10 Coconut Oil Uses:
Facial Cleanser-
This is one of my favorite ways to cleanse my face. Before using coconut oil, I was trying a bunch of “natural” face washes that didn’t seem to work to well.
My routine now is simply adding some essential oils to a cup of coconut oil (my favorite essential oil to use is Frankinscence) and mix. This face cleanser can be used for a long time because there is so much of it!
To actually cleanse my face I put some of the mixed up coconut oil, apply it to my face, run a washcloth under really hot water, wring the washcloth out, then put it over my face. I let it sit there for about a minute or until the washcloth gets cooler.
I then dab the remaining oil spots (normally by my nose) and call it a day! Let it air dry to give your face the full benefits. This is called oil cleansing, and I will create another post strictly on this subject since I love it so much!
Shaving Cream-
Not only doesn’t this work amazing, but it is super inexpensive to use! As an added bonus you can add some essential oils as well.
Moisturizer-
Coconut oil works so well with our skin! It makes for a great moisturizer. You can apply it anywhere that needs attention. A little goes a long way with coconut oil though so don’t use too much!
Toothpaste-
There are so many great recipes to make toothpaste with coconut oil, and if you make your own you don’t have to worry about the chemicals.
Makeup Remover-
I use this to remove my makeup all the time. It works wonders, and since you already have coconut oil in your bathroom it is one way to simplify your beauty care products. Remember to only use a tip amount (about the size of a small pea).
Reduces Appearance of Stretch Marks-
I used this during my pregnancy with my son, and it helped a lot! Not only did I use it to moisturize before my son, but to reduce the appearance of them after birth. It helps in fading the marks, and it helps in supporting the skin.
Coconut Oil Pulling-
Coconut oil pulling is a great practice to help support the health of your teeth and mouth. To start just take 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for 10-20 minutes. Make sure you do not swallow this though since you are helping to rid your body of toxins. When you are done spit it out in the trashcan not in the sink!
Diaper Rash Cream-
When I was pregnant with my son I stocked up on all the “natural” baby lines of products. Since I was pregnant and already overwhelmed, I just assumed they had good ingredients in them.
It wasn’t until after my son was born that I started investigating further. I was shocked to see the ingredients in the products that were supposed to good for him. That is when I started making my own products.
One of my favorite things I make is my son’s diaper rash cream. It is so simple I take about a cup of coconut oil, and add a few drops of either melaleuca or lavender essential oils. So simple and works well!
Natural Deodorant-
Coconut oil’s natural antibacterial properties help make it a great natural deodorant. You can use it on it’s own or add in some baking soda or a few drops of essential oils. Make sure if you are just switching over to a natural deodorant to give your body some time to get used to the change.
Hair Conditioner-
Coconut oil is a great natural hair conditioner. Make sure when you use it though you use only about 1 tsp and start at the ends of your hair first. A little goes a long way with coconut oil. I once used a lot for my hair thinking it would help condition it more and lets just say I ended up regretting that decision! It took about 4 days to get it completely back to normal.
As you can see coconut oil has many uses and benefits, and there are so many more! I wanted to give you my top 10 coconut oil uses for you to begin trying as well. Not only will you be living a more natural lifestyle, but one that is simple as well.
Where can I get coconut oil to start implementing the 10 coconut oil uses?
A lot of stores sell them, but here is the one off of amazon you could try as well!
