Everyone is always talking about how they are trying to live a healthy lifestyle, but what does that look like? Here are 10 tips for a healthy lifestyle that you can start incorporating into your life today!

1. Enjoy real food
I am sure you have heard this before, but one simple way to start living a healthy lifestyle is by eliminating processed foods as much as you can and sticking to real food from the earth.
I know it’s not always easy to know what to cook, but one way to find some easy and healthy recipes is by searching for them on the internet! There is so much to choose from.
Just be careful though because there are recipes out there claiming to be healthy, but they are still filled with a lot of processed foods. Just make sure to pick recipes with fresh ingredients!
2. Drink water
Eliminating as much processed foods as you can also means it’s important to get the ideal amount of water each day.
It’s also important to get high quality water so that you aren’t drinking a bunch of chemicals. A great option is the Berkley water filter. You can also get a whole house filter (which is what we have in our home), but this tends to be the more expensive route to take.
3. Switch out commercial cleaners for non-toxic products
There are a lot of harmful chemicals that are found in commercial cleaners. These chemicals can affect our health in so many different ways.
That’s why it’s so important to switch to non-toxic products in order to help live a healthier lifestyle and create a safe environment for your family.
4. Clean up your skin care
One of the other tips for a healthy lifestyle is to clean up your skin care. This means switching out the harmful products you use each day (look at the ingredient list on your skin care bottles and makeup) to ones that are made with clean ingredients you can pronounce.
Skin deep is a great website for more information on how many chemicals are common in the everyday products you use. Since this is an industry that doesn’t have many regulations, I think you will be surprised to find that most of the commercial products have very high toxic scores.
What to do next?
Take inventory of your products and start checking them in the database. Some of the chemicals can cause some real health issues including fertility issues, hormone imbalance, and much more.
5. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables
Not only is it important to eat real foods, but it’s also important to remember to eat lots of fruits and vegetables! These powerhouses help our bodies in so many different ways, and many of us don’t get enough throughout the day.
Here are some simple tips to eat more throughout the day (these tips work great with kiddos as well).
- Sneak them in smoothies
- Blend them up and sneak them in your spaghetti or chilli
- Have a salad for at least one meal each day
- Drink a green juice each more upon waking up
6. Move your body each day
While diet is important in creating a healthy lifestyle, it’s also important to move your body each day. Movement not only helps us with our metabolism, but it also gives us more energy throughout the day! Who wouldn’t want those great benefits?
Moving more doesn’t necessarily mean you have to complete a hard core workout 5 days a week for an hour a day. It just means to be more active throughout the day. You will be surprised at how your body responds to just sitting less and moving more (however that feels best to you).
7. Create a self care routine
These 10 tips for a healthy lifestyle wouldn’t be complete without discussing self care. Self care is huge for a healthy lifestyle! Remember that health isn’t just about your physical body but also your emotional and mental health as well. You need time to rest and recharge. That’s okay! Remember we aren’t robots.
When you take time for self care you aren’t being selfish. You are simply helping to support your body so you can be present for the people who rely on you each and every day.

8. Laugh more
Have you ever heard the phrase, “Laughter is the best medicine?” They say it for a reason! The more you laugh throughout the day means the more you are enjoying life. It’s important to try and reduce stress as much as you can, and when you laugh, it produces endorphins which are the “feel good” hormones.
Do you know someone that always makes you laugh? Maybe now is a great time to schedule a time to get together with them and enjoy some laughter!

10. Gratitude
This is such an important topic when creating a healthy lifestyle. When we are grateful for everything we have, then it’s easier to stress less and thank God for everything He has given us.
When we focus on the things we don’t have, then it’s easier to become stressed out. We start wondering why our life isn’t where we want it to be, why we can’t have those things our neighbor has, or why our family can’t look like their family.
We need to instead focus on all the things God has blessed us with. Life isn’t ever going to look perfect, and I truly believe the sooner someone can understand that everyone has “stuff” it makes their life a lot easier!

Remember living a healthy lifestyle isn’t a destination we arrive at, but instead, it’s a journey. Some days we might do better than others, but the most important thing is that we keep going.
