5 Morning Habits to Change Your Life
Do you want to start changing your life? Do you wish you were more productive each day?
One of the most important aspects of living a productive life is to create morning habits to keep you focused on your priorities throughout the day. It’s so easy to get distracted and start reacting to your day instead of staying in control.
That is why I wanted to share with you 5 morning habits to change your life!
I struggled for so long trying to find a morning routine that worked for me, and now that I have, I wanted to share it with you! It has changed my life, and my prayer is that it changes yours as well!
Things to do to change your life.
Since every body is different, the specifics of this will look different depending on your goals. There are common themes of things to do in order to change your life starting in the morning.
- Be present and intentional
- Reduce your choices throughout the day
- Get up and move
- Be grateful
- Pray and meditate
Since we know that all these create lasting impact and change, we can now create a morning routine that will help us change our lives.
How to create a morning routine.
Now you are probably asking, “What should be my morning routine?” This answer is going to look different for everyone. It’s time to create a morning routine that works best for you! It’s best to try and mix things up a bit to see what works specifically for your mornings.
1. Be present and intentional
Being intentional about how you spend your time is so important when you are trying to find morning habits to change your life!
Making a plan, and then implementing that plan is key. If you don’t have a plan, then nothing seems to get done. You don’t know where to focus your efforts if you don’t have the end goal in mind.
I like to start off with a “brain dump” of everything I want to accomplish in different areas of my life. From there, I pick 3 areas to work on for the next quarter.
Once I have identified those 3 areas, I then break those goals down even further into actionable steps that I need to take everyday.
Make a plan, then work that plan. Just make sure to be flexible and adjust as needed.
When we are intentional about how we spend our lives, then we are better able to live life on our own terms. It also helps creativity to flourish when we are in touch with our calling.
To help you be intentional each day, break down the larger goals and focus on identifying only 2-3 top priorities for that day. Try to have them be realistic so that you feel you are making progress. Small, consistent steps each day lead to massive change.
2. Reduce your choices throughout the day
If you take a look at successful people, they all make sure to limit the amount of choices they have to make throughout the day. There is such a thing called decision fatigue.
This means they know what their morning will look like each day (including what they eat for breakfast and when they wake up), and a lot of them have a set “uniform” they wear to help avoid decision fatigue. These are just a few examples.
I know what you’re thinking about wearing a uniform… no one wants to have to wear a suit jacket everyday. Having a “uniform” doesn’t necessarily mean dressing up everyday. It could simply mean they change into yoga pants and a t-shirt before beginning work for the day (like I do)! Find what works best for you, and then make that part of your routine.
The idea is to create simple steps for every day to help you focus more on creating and living your life intentionally and with purpose.
Reducing your choices throughout the day helps with creativity because you are leaving a lot of room open for creativity to flow.
3. Get up and move
Movement helps with creativity and energy, gets the blood flowing, and much more! The benefits are endless, and it’s the perfect way start to the day.
It helps to avoid getting into a creativity rut.
4. Be grateful
I have found that being grateful has changed the way I look at life. When you are grateful for the little things in life, it’s hard to not love people and want to help.
This is a difficult thing to do sometimes in this world because the negativity normally drowns out the positive, but it’s so important to have a heart of gratitude. Everyone has difficult circumstances that they could dwell on and that could stop them from doing what they are called to do in this life. To change the world, we need to love others and have the courage to live a life worthy of the calling we have received, then we have to focus on the positive.
If you want to start creating morning habits to change your life, then you have to focus on what you DO have and the blessings God has given you in this life.
Be grateful, change your mindset, and you will be amazed at the changes you will start seeing in your life.
5. Pray and meditate
Taking time to stop and focus is so important. Prayer not only helps you connect more in your relationship with God, but it also helps you to:
- Thank God for good things to help you stay positive.
- Ask for his guidance and direction over what you’re doing for the day.
- Talk to him about any big decisions or stresses in your life to help ease your anxiety.
- Ask him to show you ways you can have a positive impact on the people you will influence today.
As you can see, these habits are game changers! These morning habits to change your life will help you live the life you have always dreamed if you just keep at it each day.
Bonus: Use Essential Oils
Essential oils provide a great support for us for so many different things. They have changed my life so much that I have written multiple essential oil guides about them. Using them in the morning as you go through these habits listed above can be an extra added benefit!
Some of my favorite essential oils to diffuse in the morning are citrus essential oils because they help to uplift the mood for the day ahead. Citrus essential oils are Lemon, Lime, Bergamot, Tangerine, etc.
Frankincense is my favorite essential oil to use during prayer and meditation. It is great to be diffused as you set your intentions for that day!
