5 Self Care Strategies That Actually Work
5 Self Care Strategies That Actually Work!
Are you looking for more self care strategies to use? Do you want to not only survive the days, but THRIVE?
Self care is something that is often overlooked. We mainly focus on our to-do list most days, and it’s so easy to forget about the one thing that is super important!
It’s not selfish to make sure to schedule in self care even though there are some people who make you think it is. As a mama or someone who takes care of others, it’s especially needed. In order to help take care of others, you need to make sure to take care of yourself!
In this post, I am going to share 5 self care strategies that actually work.
What is self care?
Self care is anything we do to take care of ourselves. It can be mentally, spiritually, or physically.
It’s so important especially when trying to live a healthy lifestyle. When we take care of ourselves, then it helps to manage our stress levels.
Stress is the source of so many health issues. You can be eating the right foods, using natural remedies, and exercising, but can still be unhealthy if you haven’t learned how to manage your stress levels. That’s why it’s so important to make sure to take care of yourself as well.
What does self care do for you?
Self care is important because it not only allows you time to take care of yourself, but it helps you to live your life with better intention each day. You put more focus on creating activities that will help you live your best life.
5 Self Care Strategies
There are 5 self care strategies that you can start incorporating into your days and weeks that will help you not only survive the days, but thrive!
Self Care Strategy #1- Take 5 minute breaks
One of the biggest arguments against being able to practice self care is the time commitment. If you have a lot on your plate right now, then I would encourage you to find 5-10 minutes throughout the day to spend on yourself.
The best part about self care is that it isn’t a one size fits all. There are many different ways to get it in. If you can’t spare 30 minutes, then I would highly recommend to start with 5-10 minute self care activities throughout the day.
Some great 5-10 minute self care activities are:
- painting your nails
- taking a shower/bath
- drinking a cup of coffee or tea
- listening to your favorite song
- pray or meditate
Self Care Strategy #2- Say no more often
A lot of people have a hard time with saying no to people. The truth is that when you say “yes” to something, you are always saying “no” to something else. Whether that be time with the family, work, self care, etc.
That’s why it’s important to have a clear vision of what you want to make a priority in your life so you can say “yes” to the right things, and “no” to the things that don’t align.

Self Care Strategy #3- Use essential oils
Essential oils can provide a lot of therapeutic benefits and support. Especially if you are short on time, rolling on an uplifting or calming essential oil when you need it can be a game changer!
Diffusing essential oils can be a huge support throughout the day as well. They are the perfect addition to an self care plan!
A calming and relaxing essential oil diffuser blend to use is:
- 2 drops Vetiver essential oil
- 2 drops Cedarwood essential oil
- 2 drops Lavender essential oil

Self Care Strategy #4- Enjoy the little things in life
You might not always have time for self care each day, and that’s ok. That’s why one thing I try to do it make sure to enjoy the little things in life.
There are moments everyday that can make you stop and thank God for everything that He has given. We all have our hard moments and our stuff we are dealing with, but when we take the time to really look at the special moments each day it can change our lives and our perspectives.
Some examples of these little moments each day are:
- the joy on a child’s face while he/she is playing
- a fresh cup of coffee
- the beautiful scenery while driving
- a sunrise or sunset
- cuddling with your dogs and/or children
- hugging someone special in your life
- taking a moment in the day to really look at all the amazing blessings you have been given
When we are focusing our thoughts and energy on finding and enjoying the little things in life, then it helps us to focus on our blessings. Each and every one of us has blessings in our life.
I know there are some really tough situations you deal with, but there is always something to be grateful for. Let’s find those and focus on them each day!

Self Care Strategy #5- Create a self care plan
In order to make time for the things in this life you want to, you need to make a plan. It normally doesn’t happen if you don’t write it down or plan for it. That’s why it’s so important to have a clear vision of your goals, then actually write them out.
People who are rockstars at creating a great self care plan are the people who are intentional about scheduling it in. They don’t just hope they have enough time at the beginning or end of the day. They either wake up early, schedule it in throughout the day, or schedule it in the evenings.
They create a plan, and they make sure to stick to their plan. It helps change everything.
