Since we will be applying essential oils topically for skin care, it’s important to know the best carrier oils to use. The best carrier oils for skin care are coconut oil, jojoba oil, evening primrose oil, rosehip seed oil, argan oil, and pomegranate seed oil.
Best Carrier Oils to use for Skin Care:
Coconut Oil:
Helps protect the skin and hair along with reducing the appearance of cellulite.
Jojoba Oil:
Moisturizes skin and stimulates collagen synthesis.
Evening Primrose Oil:
Hydrates skin and hair and helps reduce the appearance of cellulite.
Rosehip Seed Oil:
Stimulates collagen production, moisturizes skin and hair, helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and has healthy aging properties.
Argan Oil:
Exfoliates skin and helps fight blemishes along with relieving razor bumps and burns.

How to use essential oils for skin care.
The quality of essential oils is extremely important especially when using them topically! It is important to find a brand that you trust.
The brand should source their essential oils from areas where they are indigenous. The essential oils should be therapeutic grade without any additives, and they should be third party tested and verified using GC/MS testing to show there are no additives.
Since essential oils aren’t regulated it’s important to find brands that back up their claims. I have tried a lot of different brands over the years, and here is the brand I trust and use with my family.

Lavender essential oil:
This essential oil is on the list because it is great for all skin types! One of the main chemical components in Lavender is Linalyl acetate. This compound is shown to be calming and has very low potential to irritate the skin.
Lavender is a skin soother (highly soothing to skin cuts and irritations), reduces the appearance of skin imperfections, and is great for healthy skin.
- To use Lavender essential oil on skin, just mix with coconut oil and apply to areas of concern twice daily.

Tea Tree essential oil:
Tea Tree is great for acne, oily skin, and infections. Due to the compounds in its makeup, it is known for it’s ability to help improve multiple skin-related conditions.
It’s one of the most effective home remedies for acne, soothes dry and flaking skin, helps relieve skin inflammation, and is a great choice to use on toenail fungus.
- To use Tea Tree for acne, create a gentle face wash by mixing 5 drops of Tea Tree with 2 teaspoons of honey.
- Mix 5 drops of Tea Tree and Lavender with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil to create a inflammation-cooling and soothing lotion for skin irritations.
- Combine one to two drops of Tea Tree with a facial cleanser or moisturizer for added cleansing properties.
- Try applying this essential oil to the fingernails and toenails after showering to keep nails looking healthy.
- Add a few drops of Tea Tree to shampoo to keep your hair looking thick, clean, and healthy.
Frankincense essential oil:
Frankincense is called the “king of oils,” since it is powerful and effective in may different situations!
The compound Alpha-pinene is found in high proportions in most species of Frankincense and is know for its powerful anti-inflammatory effects.
Frankincense is a great natural alternative to Retinol and can help minimize stretch marks and wrinkles. It may decrease the appearance of scars as well.
To use Frankincense essential oil:
- Mix 2-3 drops of the essential oil with equal parts coconut oil and apply to areas of concern.
- Add Frankincense to a moisturizer to reduce the appearance of blemishes and to rejuvenate the skin.
